In Loving Memory: Mama (1948-2024)

Words cannot describe what Mama means to me.

Mama always lived for the sake of others. She saw her ministry to her husband, children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren as an expression of her faith in Jesus. She often reminded me how important it was that what we believe should flow out in real, tangible action.

In the months leading up to her passing, I had to learn to accept the fact that I was about to lose one of the most empathetic and compassionate listeners I had ever known. I will miss simply chatting with her about random things and listening to her stories, thoughts, and reflections.

Having my parents live with us for most of our married life, I witnessed how, over the years, both of them grew in their faith, love, and commitment to each other.

Today on his Facebook page, Papa paid a lovely and God-honouring tribute to a helpmeet who left him one year ago. He shared:

It has now been one year since she left us. I miss her every day—her voice, her smile, her presence in the house. But I still see her in our children, in our grandchildren, and in all the memories we shared.

I am thankful to God that Meisy accepted the truth of the gospel—not as a theory, but as a living faith. And if ministry to your wife is the greatest ministry of all, then I can say with peace: I served her with the gospel, and she received it with grace.

I guess Papa managed to find those words.

Mama, you are greatly missed.
