Jesus Reigns!

Written by:

It’s that time again—Federal Election season! I wouldn’t be surprised if many of us feel uncertain or even anxious. We’ve heard promises of change. We’ve tuned in to debates, whether between candidates or around the dinner table. We engage with these things because we care about who will lead and shape our society in the years to come.

As good citizens, it’s right to be concerned about the election. Even if our individual influence seems small, we are called to uphold our governments in prayer and give respect where it’s due.

However, as followers of Jesus, we remember that our greatest hope and highest authority are not found in Canberra, in local councils, or in any human institution. Our hope rests in a King whose power is above and beyond any ruler. He sits enthroned—unchallenged, unimpeachable, and unshaken. Psalm 103:19 reminds us:

“The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.”

Most of us have lived long enough to see leaders come and go, both in Australia and around the world. Policies shift, allegiances change. It’s sobering to consider how many individuals who once dominated headlines are now barely mentioned.

Yet in the midst of it all, how comforting to know that Jesus reigns supreme! His perfect justice, unmatched wisdom, and unending love are in His hands alone. Last time I checked, Jesus is still making headlines in churches and Christian communities around the world.

So as you pray, vote, and participate thoughtfully in this election, rest secure in the King who sits on an uncontested throne—who loves His church and will rule forever without end.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You that no matter who leads our nation, You reign with perfect justice, wisdom and love. Help me to trust Your rule, pray faithfully for our leaders, and live as a citizen of Your kingdom above all. Amen.
