This weekend, as many celebrate Mother’s Day, we look forward to a time of joy, honouring the women who have nurtured and shaped us. It’s a day filled with gratitude for the love, strength, sacrifice, and care of a mother in our lives. However, it’s also a day that can stir many emotions—whether because of grief, absence, or a complicated relationship.
Around this time last year, my Mama went to be with the Lord, only a couple of weeks after celebrating her final Mother’s Day with us. Her absence still feels surreal in many ways, especially since my parents have been living with us. Yet looking back, I’m deeply thankful for the years we shared—for the quiet strength, love, and prayers she modeled and invested in our family.
The Bible gives us a beautiful picture of God’s motherly love:
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” – Isaiah 66:13
Whether this Mother’s Day brings joy, grief, or a mix of emotions, we can be assured that God’s comforting love is always present, surrounding us. Even the best human love is only a shadow of God’s deeper, stronger, and far more enduring love. God mothers us with unfailing, everlasting kindness.
As we honour mothers and those who have nurtured us, may it lead us to lean even more into the arms of our heavenly Father, who loves us perfectly.
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank You for mothers and those who show us motherly care. Bless them with strength and joy. Comfort those who grieve, who are longing, and who are hurting in this season. May we come to know You and Your love in a deeper way. Amen.
